Sri Lanka, Nov. 4 -- A motion seeking the appointment of a special Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to conduct a full study of the tragic incident of Black July 1983 and its impact was adopted in parliament yesterday.

The motion was submitted to Parliament by National People's Power (NPP) MP Thanura Dissanayake, and was seconded by MP Bhagya Sri Herath from the NPP.

The objective of this special committee is to conduct a full study and report on the Black July incident that took place in 1983, to ensure national harmony, and to submit its proposals and recommendations to Parliament regarding the provision of relief to the affected people.
