Sri Lanka, July 13 -- The Balapitiya Magistrate's Court ordered Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Ambalangoda Pradeshiya Sabha member Amith Chathuranga Samaranayake, alias 'Batapola Nindane Chutte', who was arrested with a firearm, to be remanded until today (13).

Officers of the Galle District Crimes Division arrested him on July 11 at his residence in the Diddaliya area, Baddegama, along with a repeater-type firearm.

The raid was conducted on information which was received that the politician was in possession of an illegal firearm. The firearm was found during the raid, but he did not possess a license for it. The Galle District Crimes Division said steps were taken subsequently to arrest and produce him in court.
