Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- A tense situation prevailed at the monthly meeting of the Habaraduwa Pradeshiya Sabha yesterday (15) after opposition members alleged that a National People's Power (NPP) member had arrived at the meeting while under the influence of liquor.

The meeting descended into a state of high tension after three Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) members climbed onto the chamber tables to protest against the conduct of the PS member in question. Although the Chairman had summoned the police to bring the situation under control, the police officers were observing while remaining outside the chamber.

The motion to remove the protesting MPs from the Chamber was not passed, and the Chair ultimately adjourned the meeting for 24 hours....
