India, Sept. 3 -- Popular singer Priyankara Perera, 64, passed away yesterday.

He had been suffering from an illness for a brief period of time and was receiving treatment in the Colombo National Hospital.

Priyankara is the eldest son of legendary singer J A Milton Perera, a leading playback singer in Sri Lanka for over three decades who lent his melodious voice to famous actors like Gamini Fonseka and Joe Abeywickrama.

Priyankara has also made his contribution as an actor to a number of Sinhala films including Suragana, Seethala Gini kadu and many teledramas.

His remains will lie at a private funeral parlour in Borella from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (3) and the funeral will take place.
