Sharp increase in dengue cases this year
Sri Lanka, June 8 -- National Dengue Control Unit Director Dr. Kapila Kannangara stated that the reporting of dengue patients this year shows a rapid increase of about 50 to 55 percent compared to last year.
According to the data from the unit, the total number of dengue cases reported in the country as of June 5 stands at 36,168. The Western Province has been the worst affected, accounting for 50 percent of the total reported cases.
Considering the prevailing risk, the Ministry of Health has decided to implement a three-day special dengue control programme from today (8) until Wednesday (10).
This programme will be executed covering 14 districts with the highest number of reported cases, centering on 72 Medical Officer of Health (MOH)...
