Sri Lanka, May 20 -- The Department of Meteorology says the South-West monsoon is gradually establishing over the island, bringing showers and strong winds to several areas.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, with fairly heavy falls above 50 mm likely in some places.

Several spells of showers are also forecast for the Northern Province and the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts, while evening thundershowers may occur in parts of Uva, Ampara and Batticaloa.
