Sri Lanka, May 29 -- The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has issued new instructions to all schools following a warning from the Ministry of Health and Media regarding the spread of Enterovirus meningitis in several districts. The circular has been circulated to strengthen preventive measures as health authorities report increasing cases among school-aged children.

According to the Ministry, viral meningitis caused by enteroviruses was first reported in April 2026 from the Deniyaya area in Matara District.
