SC dismisses petition challenging gender transition circulars
Sri Lanka, July 21 -- The Supreme Court (SC) yesterday dismissed a Fundamental Rights petition that sought to challenge the legality of Government circulars and guidelines relating to gender transition procedures.
The petition, filed by retired Sri Lanka Air Force veteran Shantha Jayathilaka, was dismissed by a two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Arjuna Obeyesekere after the Court considered preliminary objections raised by the respondents.
The respondents had contended that the petition was filed out of time and was therefore not maintainable.
