Satyagraha for Sallay called off
Sri Lanka, June 11 -- The Satyagraha staged opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station in support of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director, Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, was called off yesterday.
The demonstration, led by several opposition political parties including the Sarvajana Balaya, National Freedom Front, and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya and some Buddhist clergy, began on Monday.
It was launched to protest Sallay's detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and to condemn his alleged "inhumane and cruel treatment" while in Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody, and subsequently Sallay going on a hunger strike.
