Sri Lanka, June 2 -- The sacred relics of the Buddha's Chief Disciples Sariputta and Moggallana, were taken to Mongolia recently. They were officially received by former President of Mongolia, Nambaryn Enkhbayar and the Mongolian Education Minister Naranbayar.

The relics will be placed for public exposition and veneration at the Gandan Monastery in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, for ten days from June 1 to 10.

Discovered during excavations in the British colonial period at the Sanchi Stupa, a complex built during the reign of King Ashoka, the relics are currently enshrined at the Chethiyagiri Vihara in Sanchi.
