Sri Lanka, June 8 -- Labour Minister and Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando stated that it is incorrect to portray the fluctuation of the Rupee's value as an economic crisis, as it is merely a result of the behaviour of market forces.

The Minister pointed out that the value of the Rupee underwent some fluctuation over the past few days mainly due to several external factors.

"In particular, a short-term surge in the demand for the US Dollar, driven by rising fuel prices and other factors stemming from the wartime situation in the Middle-East, caused this trend," he added.
