SriLanka, Sept. 29 -- Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga created history winning the gold medal in the men's javelin throw event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan Yesterday. Rumesh recorded a 88.55 metres throw in his last attempt and bagged the gold, becoming the first Sri Lankan athlete to win an Asian Games gold medal in javelin throw.

The 23-year-old world number one continued his superb form to grab the gold. Two Indians, Yasvir Singh and Rohit Yadav claimed the silver and the bronze medals. Yasvir Singh, who won the bronze at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, upgraded to silver with a personal best of 85.72m and Yadav took the bronze with a 84.35m throw.
