Sri Lanka, July 6 -- Around 25 people, including prison officers, have been admitted to hospital following clashes that broke out today(06) between prison officers and inmates at the Negombo Prison, hospital sources said.

The clashes erupted during a tense situation inside the prison, prompting authorities to deploy additional police teams along with Special Task Force personnel to bring the situation under control.

Police said the situation remains under control at present, while security has been further strengthened within the prison.

The incident comes a day after a separate clash between two groups of inmates at the same prison, which left two inmates dead and 38 others injured.
