Sri Lanka, Sept. 2 -- Cabinet Spokesman, Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said legal reforms are underway to introduce house arrest as a means of easing prison overcrowding, adding that several other reforms are also under discussion within the judicial system.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday (31), the Minister said

discussions and legislative work are progressing on multiple fronts, with measures aimed at reducing prison overcrowding by expediting reports from the Government Analyst's Department, and reforming bail laws for individuals who remain in custody despite being eligible for bail because they are unable to fulfil minor bail conditions.
