SriLanka, Sept. 21 -- The Department of Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall for the south-western part of the island today, linking the wet weather to a low-pressure area developing over the Andaman Sea, according to the forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. today(26).

The department said the low-pressure area, which has formed over the Andaman Sea region of the Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify further over the coming days. While the system will not directly affect Sri Lanka, wind flow towards it is expected to sustain the rainy conditions currently prevailing in the south-western part of the island.
