Sri Lanka, Oct. 30 -- Former Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara emphasised yesterday that the government must provide substantial and adequate relief to the public in Budget 2027.

Failure to provide adequate financial relief, tax reductions and social safety nets in the upcoming fiscal budget 2027 by the government can lead to heightened public dissatisfaction and intensified political criticism, he said.

"If the government fails to provide relief to the people in budget 2027, public anger against the government will intensify manifold. People are currently living under such severe hardship.

Public expectations for the 2027 budget are exceptionally high, particularly regarding inflation relief, tax adjustments, and social welfare support". ...
