Sri Lanka, April 10 -- The Environment Ministry has initiated a comprehensive national effort to secure and sustainably manage Sri Lanka's surface and groundwater resources. Following the launch of the 'Thirasara Diyawara' National Programme on World Water Day, the Government is moving to identify and gazette the country's vital aquifers. To ensure this initiative reaches every district, Environment Deputy Minister Anton Jayakody has emphasised that the programme must be executed through a nationwide community-based framework.South Asians & Diaspora
This strategic shift coincides with the landmark Cabinet approval to completely amend the 62-year-old Water Resources Board Act, providing a modernised legal foundation for water security.
