Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- The acting Divisional Secretary of Talawakelle, Sameera Gamlath, has lodged a complaint with the Talawakelle Police alleging that the officer in charge of the Aswesuma welfare programme at the Talawakelle Divisional Secretariat diverted Rs. 916,000 meant for beneficiaries into a relative's account instead of disbursing it.
The complaint states that this misappropriation came to light during an internal investigation.
Following complaints from beneficiaries who had not received their allocated Aswesuma funds, the Divisional Secretary conducted a preliminary inquiry. Upon discovering evidence of the financial fraud, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Thushari Thennakoon suspended the officer involved.
