SriLanka, Sept. 23 -- Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath yesterday confirmed in Parliament that the government is taking extensive legal and diplomatic measures to secure the release of Sivarasa Anojan, a Sri Lankan migrant worker sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will make a formal diplomatic appeal which will be made directly to the King of Saudi Arabia to seek a pardon.

"We have also been proposed to send a special parliamentary delegation, led by Deputy Speaker Rizvi Salih, to Saudi Arabia to personally deliver the appeal."I also plan to meet with the Saudi Foreign Minister during the upcoming UN General Assembly to press for clemency, sentence reduction, or alternative concessions.
