Sri Lanka, March 11 -- The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday (9) approved the appointment of a special Economic Surveillance Committee to monitor and assess the potential impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East on Sri Lanka's economy, Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.Geographic Reference

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday (10), the Minister stated that the committee will be chaired by Labour Minister and Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando. The committee's primary responsibility will be to closely observe developments in the Middle East, evaluate their possible economic consequences for Sri Lanka, and submit recommendations to the Cabinet.
