Poson Maha Perahera of Heenatiyana Pothgul Viharaya
Sri Lanka, July 1 -- The 79th annual Poson Maha Perahera of the Heenatiyana Pothgul Viharaya was held recently, under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent, Shastrapathi Venerable Dhammadassi Nayaka Thera.
With a history spanning over 300 years, the murals in the image house of this temple belong to the Kandyan era. Initiated 79 years ago under the guidance of the late Venerable Heenatiyana Dhammakkhandha Maha Thera in accordance with Buddhist culture, this procession is unique for spanning a distance of several kilometers.
