Sri Lanka, July 31 -- Medical tests have revealed that nearly 28% of teachers in the country are suffering from mental stress due to unnecessary political interference and frustration in the education sector, according to Ceylon Teachers Union President Priyantha Fernando.
Speaking to the media in Anuradhapura, he said the current Government came to power with promises to reform education and bring about a transformation the country will feel.
'The Government is taking a lukewarm attitude towards the teacher-principal issue'.
He said 'although the Government has initiated educational reforms, it currently has no plans for teachers and subject syllabuses'.
