Sri Lanka, Feb. 23 -- Three police officers, one woman police constable, and two police sergeants have been suspended in connection with an incident where a woman who was in custody in the Mt. Lavinia Police headquarters escaped.

The woman escaped from police custody after she had been arrested by the police on drugs charges and was being detained for questioning on a court order.

The suspect had been arrested a few days earlier by the Moratuwa Police Special Task Force on drugs charges. During the operation, 36,650 milligrams of heroin were recovered from the suspect. Thereafter, the woman who had been remanded in custody was released on bail last Monday.
