Sri Lanka, April 20 -- Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya yesterday said the Police Department is currently operating with a shortage of around 40,000 personnel.
He said that the department would recruit 10,000 new officers to mitigate the shortage to an extent. He noted that the Government has granted approval for this initiative, and the department is currently conducting the necessary preliminary work.
