Sri Lanka, June 30 -- Former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, has been remanded until July 13 in connection with an ongoing investigation into five murders reported in 2008 in the Eastern Province.

The order was issued by the Batticaloa Magistrate's Court today (30) when the case was taken up before court.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is conducting further investigations into the incident, had earlier informed court on June 15 regarding the 2008 killings. At that hearing, the Magistrate had directed Welikada Prison authorities to produce Chandrakanthan, identified as the third suspect in the case, at the next court date.
