Person arrested for alleged issuance of 'rubber' cheque for Rs 2.63 Mn
Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- The Kalutara Division Special Crime Investigation Unit has arrested an individual accused of fraud. The suspect allegedly issued a dishonoured cheque worth Rs. 2,630,000 to an Ayurvedic physician after obtaining money from him under the pretext of sending him to the United Kingdom.
The person arrested is a resident of the Dehiwala area.
Investigations were initiated following a complaint lodged with the police by Mohamed Naleem Mohamed Nizam (51), a resident of S.M. Road, Dharga Town.
His complaint to the police states that a sum of Rs. 3,630,000 was collected from him for travel to the United Kingdom. Although Rs. 1 million was refunded when the trip did not materialise, a fraud was committed by issuing a dishono...
