SriLanka, Sept. 22 -- The parents of Sivarasa Anojan, a young Sri Lankan national who has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia, met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential secretariat yesterday (21) morning.

During the meeting, Anojan's parents briefed the President on the situation about their son and appealed to him to intervene urgently and take the necessary steps to safeguard his life.

President Dissanayake told the man's family that the Government is making every possible effort to secure a pardon for him, including through legal and diplomatic channels. He also informed them that steps would be taken to make a formal written diplomatic appeal to the King of Saudi Arabia seeking a pardon.
