Sri Lanka, April 7 -- The 1995 hotline, a 24-hour emergency service launched by the Ministry of Environment to combat environmental crimes, has received 240 complaints in four months.
The hotline was established based on a concept of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The aim of the hotline is to respond quickly to the damage caused to wildlife and environment based on the complaints.
It encompasses direct coordination between the Defence Ministry, Environment Ministry, the Departments of Wildlife and Forest Conservation, the Police and Tri-Forces. The hotline was launched on November 3, 2025 by Environment Minister Dammika Patabendi and Deputy Minister of Environment, Anton Jayakody.
