Over 3,000 fined for not wearing seatbelts on expressways
Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- Legal action has been taken against 3,100 individuals who violated the seatbelt law on expressways, according to DIG in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W. P. J. Senadheera.
He stated that while the majority of people adhere to the law, a small group fails to follow it, and continuous inspections are being conducted.
These inspections are being carried out following the mandatory requirement introduced on September 19 for all passengers travelling in vehicles on expressways to wear seatbelts.
Expressway Division OIC Chief Inspector Asoka Karunaratne, said that legal action was taken against this group during inspections conducted from the implementation of the law on September 19 up until yesterday (05)....
