Sri Lanka, April 24 -- A survey by the Urban Development Authority has confirmed that there are 198 unauthorised constructions within a distance of 2.2 kilometers around Akurana town on the Kandy-Jaffna A- 9 main road.
A further 24 unauthorised constructions have been identified during a survey conducted for 300 meters along the road from Akurana to Dunuwila.
The officials representing the Urban Development Authority revealed these facts when the next steps to be taken in this regard were discussed at the Kandy District Coordination Committee, after identifying that the main reason for the Akurana town being submerged during rainfall is illegal constructions built across the Pinga Oya.
