Sri Lanka, March 25 -- The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday (23) approved a proposal to promote digital payments by removing transaction fees for both senders and recipients on QR-based payments below Rs. 5,000, Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday (24), he noted that the move aligns with the 2026 Budget proposals aimed at modernising the country's financial landscape and reducing its heavy reliance on physical cash.
