Sri Lanka, June 12 -- Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara, told Parliament yesterday that no official Cabinet approval has been taken to extend the retirement age of judges in the judicial system, including the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

The Minister said this in response to several questions raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa under 27(2) in Parliament yesterday.

Eventhough, various professional groups have requested higher retirement ages due to increased life expectancy and brain drain, the Cabinet has not yet approved or finalised any official decision to extend the retirement age for judges.
