New regulations to safeguard indigenous community rights

Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- The Environment Ministry has approved a new set of regulations to safeguard indigenous community rights and protect ecosystems.

Coinciding with International Day of the World's Indigenous People, Environment Minister Dr. Dhammika Patabendi signed this new set of legal regulations aimed at ensuring environmental protection and securing the traditional rights of the indigenous (Veddah) community.

Introduced to coincide with the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples (celebrated on August 9), these regulations strengthen legal provisions to protect the traditional heritage and rights of the indigenous community.
