Established in 1913, the Excise Department has played a vital role in ensuring the secure collection of government revenue from alcohol and tobacco-related industries, curbing illegal activities, and strengthening social protection through preventive measures.
The Excise Department, which operates under the purview of the Finance Minister and is headed by the Commissioner General of Excise, has an approved cadre of 1,649 employees. However, only 1,236 employees are currently in service, leaving 413 vacancies.
