Sri Lanka, June 2 -- A newly constructed five-storey Maternity and Surgical Ward Complex at the Monaragala District General Hospital will be officially opened on June 4 under the patronage of Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

The facility, built at a cost of over Rs. 857 million, is expected to enhance healthcare services for more than 500,000 residents in the Monaragala District. The ground and first floors have been designated for maternity wards, while the second and third floors will accommodate female surgical wards.

The Ministry of Health also plans to establish four modern operating theatres on the fourth floor, with the total cost of the project expected to exceed Rs. 2.9 billion upon completion.
