Sri Lanka, July 10 -- Following the emergency that arose at Negombo Prison on July 5 and 6, the prison administration has deemed it unsuitable to continue housing inmates within the premises.

In a statement, the Justice and National Integration Ministry noted that the facility is now considered a crime scene.

The premises sustained severe damage during the violent incident. Most of the inmates housed in this facility have been

temporarily transferred to other prisons to allow investigating officers to conduct their inquiries safely, to ensure the safety of the inmates, and to enable the prompt commencement of renovations at Negombo Prison once investigations conclude.
