Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- The Sri Lanka Navy, Government agencies and fishing community representatives joined efforts to combat illegal fishing in the seas around Kalpitiya. The programme focused on the adverse effects of illegal fishing on the marine environment as well as the use of sea routes for smuggling. Discussions focused on preventing illegal fishing, promoting standard and lawful fishing methods, strengthening information-sharing mechanisms to support enforcement operations and improving co-operation to ensure maritime security.
