SriLanka, Aug. 29 -- Nava Sihala Urumaya Leader Sarath Manamendra has filed an intervenient petition before the Supreme Court, urging the Court to determine that the proposed Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution does not, in its entirety, conflict with the provisions of the Constitution and therefore does not require approval by the people at a referendum.

Manamendra is also seeking an order dismissing the relief sought in a Special Determination petition filed by former Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris challenging the proposed amendment.
