Sri Lanka, May 13 -- The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) today (13) ordered the National Police Commission to promote SSP Shani Abeysekara to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) with effect from August 25, 2020.

The order was issued following the conclusion of an inquiry into an appeal filed by Abeysekara several years ago.

According to the ruling, the National Police Commission has been directed to grant the promotion retrospectively from the specified date.
