Sri Lanka, Aug. 31 -- Some 32 metric tonnes of polythene discarded on the streets were removed during the 10 days of the Kandy Esala Perahera.
The Solid Waste Management Unit of the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) said a total of 260 metric tonnes of garbage accumulated in the city over these 10 days. In addition to polythene, the waste accumulated included 30 metric tonnes of elephant dung, 24 metric tonnes of charcoal, 33 metric tonnes of food waste and 35 metric tonnes of mixed waste.
