Sri Lanka, April 24 -- Sri Lanka's Government has launched a multi-agency local and international investigation into a sophisticated cyber fraud targeting Treasury payment communications.Coal company documents

The Finance Ministry confirmed that cyber criminals gained unauthorised access to the computer system of the External Resources Department via email and fraudulently diverted a payment of USD 2.5 million intended for an Australian creditor.

Treasury Secretary Dr.Harshana Suriyapperuma said authorities moved quickly after irregularities were detected during a second attempted transaction, enabling investigators to trace the scam and alert relevant agencies without compromising the ongoing probe.
