Sri Lanka, Feb. 24 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Defence, to introduce a new legal framework for the regulation of private security agencies in Sri Lanka.
Currently, approximately 150,000 employees work across 1,050 private security firms serving both the public and private sectors. While these agencies are currently governed by the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act No. 45 of 1998, the government has determined that existing laws are insufficient to meet modern security needs and ensure professional standards.
