Sri Lanka, April 25 -- Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stated that the motives behind those accusing the Government of suppressing the media could be easily revealed if one investigated the individuals making the claims.

She noted that the Government had provided the media with the opportunity to operate freely and independently. The Prime Minister added that journalists had a responsibility to utilise this freedom properly and report the truth accurately.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while speaking to the media after calling on the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera to receive his blessings.
