Minister tables 22A, Judicature (Amendment) Bill
Sri Lanka, Aug. 19 -- The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution and the Judicature (Amendment) Bill with provisions to extend the retirement age of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judges and all other magistrates was presented to Parliament yesterday.
The Bill was referred to the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Governance, Justice and Civil Protection, and provisions of the Constitution allow for the opinion of the Supreme Court to be sought in relation to the Bill. Meanwhile Opposition Parliamentarians led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stood up on the floor holding posters and demonstrated their protest in Parliament against the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill and the Judicature Amendment Bill at the time they were tabled...
