Sri Lanka, Feb. 26 -- Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala stated yesterday (25) that the current Government has completely severed the criminal nexus between politicians and the underworld that existed under previous administrations to maintain power. He revealed that investigations have uncovered how certain politicians previously utilised underworld gangs even to organise political rallies.

The Minister announced that a new Act for the control of organised crime will be presented to the Cabinet and Parliament for approval within the coming week.
