Sri Lanka, May 4 -- The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said remittances to the country by migrant workers during the first quarter of 2026 has shown a marked increase compared to that of the previous year. It has increased by 26.5 percent.Sri Lankan Publishing

Documenting data from the Central Bank, the SLBFE said from January to March 2026 the country has received US$ 2.294 billion as remittances. The respective amounts received from January to March were US$ 751 million, US$ 729 million and US$ 815 million.

In contrast, the total remittances received in the first quarter of 2025 was US$ 1,815 million (US$ 1.815 billion).
