Sri Lanka, April 22 -- Under the 'Clean Sri Lanka' national programme, a pilot project to introduce a Low-Floor Passenger Bus Service was launched at the Makumbura Multi-modal Transport Centre yesterday (21). The initiative aims to provide safe, comfortable and reliable transportation for persons with disabilities and those with special needs.
The pilot project was inaugurated with the participation of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
Ten specially designed low-floor buses were added to the transport fleet. These are built to allow easy access for passengers using wheel-chairs, visually-impaired individuals and pregnant mothers.
