Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- Pettah Police said two sales agents of a lottery booth were arrested on August 24 for defrauding a youth of nearly 150,000 rupees by claiming he had won a lottery prize.

Those arrested were two individuals aged 38 and 42, residing in the Piliyandala and Nawalapitiya areas.

The arrest was made based on a complaint lodged by a 22-year-old youth residing in the Eheliyagoda area.

The youth, who works in a garment factory, fell prey to this fraud when he arrived in Pettah to purchase fabrics required for his job.

Police said after he purchased and scratched a ticket from the lottery booth operating on Olcott Mawatha in Pettah, he was told he had won a prize of one hundred thousand rupees, but to collect that money, he...
