Sri Lanka, April 7 -- New laws aimed at protecting children from corporal punishment and psychological harm are expected to be enacted soon.
Addressing a press briefing at the Government Information Department yesterday (6) National Child Protection Authority Director (Legal) Preethika Sakalasooriya said several key factors have driven the need for legal reforms on corporal punishment. She explained that Sri Lanka, as a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, is required to regularly report on the protection of children's rights.
