Sri Lanka, May 15 -- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has taken legal action against several traders in Marawila for allegedly selling Samba rice above the government-approved Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

The CAA said special raids carried out in the area yesterday (14) uncovered instances where consumers were being overcharged through the sale of rice at inflated prices.

Authorities stated that court proceedings have already been initiated against the traders involved in the violations.

The CAA further urged consumers to remain alert when purchasing essential items and emphasized that no buyer should pay above the regulated control price.

The public has also been encouraged to report any such violations through the 1977 hotline. ...
